Mental Health First Aid

Equipping you with the tools to address Mental Health challenges

This service uses publicly available facility space to host its program

Service Description

Mental Health First Aid is a course offered by the Mental Health Commission of Canada with 3 goals: increase awareness of declining mental health; to increase participants confidence in what to do when faced with declining mental health for themselves or others; to decrease stigma around mental health. Any person may be confronted with a situation where you notice declining mental health. One in four people experience mental health concerns in their lifetime. This training will help you to feel confident in knowing what to do! This day-long facilitated training allows participants to engage with a group of peers to gain knowledge, discuss strategies, and empower themselves. By developing mental health literacy, participants learn to better manage potential or developing mental health problems in themselves, a family member, a friend or a colleague. Participants will earn a certificate from the Mental Health Commission of Canada upon completion of the course. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), www.mhfa.ca, is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Just as physical first aid is administered to an injured person before medical treatment can be obtained, MHFA is given until appropriate treatment is found or until the crisis is resolved.
